Here is the list of the "Prerequisites" that are/should be gathered and in order "before" you to attend a clinic...
1. Be age 18 or older;
2. Have the Basic Cruising Standard; - if you have this aready GREAT - if you do not then we at Advantage Boating will work with "registered" candidates over the summer through a challenge or during the clinic to obtain your afloat skills of the Basic Cruising Standard. AB Basic courses
3. Have the CYA Coastal Navigation Standard; - if you have it already, again GREAT - if you do not then we have three ways to get you through the standard - sign up for the classroom course (offered in Janauary or September); sign up for the on-line course, or just challenge the exam. AB Coastal courses.
4. Have 2 or more years sailing experience;
5. Have Red Cross or St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid Certificate or nationally

Once certified AB does organize re-certification clinics, the school works with Red Cross and in March 2014 will be the next school hosted re-cert course.
6. Have a CYA PCOC card. Got one already GREAT - otherwise you will be getting one during the clinic, since it is one of the exams you have to write.

Now if you obtained your VHF(maritime) certificate prior to January 2005 you will need to simply upgrade to the DSC AB VHF-DSC courses; otherwise you need to attend the whole course or homestudy or challenge the exam.
