BC Instructor Candidates

Here is the list of the "Exams" that are to be completed as part of the clinic. With the OSS hosted clinic we try to write and mark most of these exams outside of the two clinic weekends so that during that time it can have more time for the teaching processed rather than the paperwork being done.

1. Achieve a mark of 90% on the Basic Cruising examination; a current edition written within 6-months of the clinic date.

2. Achieve a mark of 75% on the CYA PCOC examination; a current edition written within 6-months of the clinic date.

3. Achieve a mark of 70% on the Intermediate Cruising examination; if you have the IC student standard then we do not ask people to re-write this exam, unless there is a newer exam edition then what you would have written to obtain you certification.

4. Achieve a mark of 90% on the Rules of the Road examination based on Rules 1 through 37,
40 and 45 of the Collision Regulations, and the Canadian Buoyage System;
this is known as the colregs exam. It is knowing your buoyage system, lights, sounds, right of way.

5. Achieve a mark of 90% on all Basic Cruising Working Papers as supplied in the Basic Cruising Instrcutor Canadidate Workbook. These are open-bbok and completed at home before the clinic. This is one of the books supplied to you once you are registered in the actual clinic, so you have paid your deposit to Ontario Sailing adn they send the books out to you.
