Flotilla Provisioning
The Boat Fund
During the flotilla taking care of the common expenses for the
boat is best handled though setting up a 'Boat Kitty'.
Common expenses for the boat include:
- Nightly mooring fees or dock fees
- Water tank re-fills
- Taking garbage ashore
- Ice
- Purchasing food
- Purchasing the drinks
During the pre-departure meeting a shopping list is created by
each individual boat as they work out the types of meals people
like; any special diet needs; who wants to eat how many dinners
aboard vs. ashore or are they going to invite another boat aboard
for dinner one night?
On average we usually start with $170.00 US per person for the
10 day Caribbean flotilla. However, that changes with the number of people
aboard, the location we are sailing in and of course the lenght
of the flotilla.
Then to manage the kitty it is a very simple rule - money out = reciept
in. During the trip if the kitty runs too low then everyone throws
another equal amount in. At the end, if there is money left some
crews have gone out for drinks, or drinks and dinner or simply divided
it equally back.
It also really helps if someone brings a lot of small bills for
making change!
